Biography:

Heather Mitchell is a military wife and the mother of three children. Before her current marriage, Heather tirelessly worked and successfully managed the demands of three jobs, as a single mother, in order to provide a quality life for her young daughter. Heather’s determination for a better life led her down a path of public service. She has fought to provide answers that make sense in order to solve the real issues facing our community. As a military wife, she understands on the most personal level the sacrifice that the members of our military and their families make serving and protecting our freedom. She has personally worked through many of the frustrating barriers military families face each day. She most recently served as a senior aid to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, where she gained an incomparable knowledge of the transportation, education and financial needs of our region. Heather also served as a legislative aid to Delegate Emily Brewer in Richmond. She currently resides in Stafford County.

Why you?

“As a military spouse, who has moved all over the continental United States and overseas, one of the first things you do when arriving to a new duty station is to jump feet first into the community. When my family and I moved to Virginia in 2014 from Okinawa Japan, that is exactly what I did. I joined my local Republican Committee in Stafford and walked out of my first meeting as the Magisterial Chair for the Rock Hill District. From there I volunteered on local supervisor races, delegate races, gubernatorial races, senate races and presidential races. I was ultimately hired as the Senior Aide to the Chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors which helped me gain an incomparable knowledge of the transportation, education and financial needs of our region. I am honored to be the GOP nominee for the Special Election on January 5th. I know these are trying times for all of us, and I promise that if elected I will do everything that I can to serve the people of the Second House District. The Democrats in Richmond have turned their back on frontline workers, our heroes in blue and have made our communities less safe by releasing violent felons and sexual predators back into our communities. I will always be there for the community, and I will have no greater priority than the health and safety of our police and frontline heroes, small businesses, teachers and essential workers. It’s time to bring sanity back to Richmond.”

What are your priorities?

“If elected, my top priority will be to work to keep our families safe by opposing the dangerous defund the police agenda while providing resources for our police and first responders. I will also stand up for our military families who live in this area and work tirelessly to improve constituent services, cut taxes, and work to solve the transportation crisis on Rt. 1 and I-95. I also promise to communicate with the residents of the Second District on important issues facing our community, something that was lacking during the term of our last Delegate.”

Do you believe – THE CONSTITUTION is the Law of the Land. Our individual rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; as enshrined in the Bill of Rights, serve to limit the government as intended by the Founders?

“Yes – I believe elected officials should uphold the Constitution. This belief extends to ALL Amendments, as well as all federal, state and local laws. Without the Constitution and laws, you do not have a country.”

Do you believe –
THE 2ND AMENDMENT, serves to protect The People against domestic and foreign oppression and must be protected as an inalienable human right?

As a proud American, a proud Virginian, and a proud military spouse, I believe elected officials should uphold the Constitution.  This belief extends to ALL Amendments, as well as all federal, state and local laws.  Without a Constitution and laws, you do not have a country.  Over this past year I was horrified with the insanity that came out of Richmond regarding our constitutional right to bear arms.  The 2nd Amendment clearly states “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”  Under Democratic Leadership, our 2nd Amendment right are being decimated.”

“With red flag laws, the re-introduction of 1-gun-a-month, and allowing localities to enact control of firearms, our 2nd Amendment rights are being eroded.  The 2nd Amendment supports an individual’s inherent right to own guns for lawful purposes.  The laws passed by the General Assembly this past year does nothing to deter criminals, but instead punishes law-abiding gun owner.  I believe that an individual should have the right to own firearms because it promotes protection for yourself and your family. Currently my husband is deployed overseas and having the ability to protect myself and my son is of the utmost importance to me.”

“I have been a member of VCDL and the NRA over several years, and I also have a concealed carry permit.  I feel that fire arm use and safety should be taught in schools so that children can learn to respect the freedoms allotted to us by the 2nd Amendment.  Although the 2nd Amendment continues to draw debate within the Commonwealth, I want to be a voice for our 2nd Amendment, making sure that Virginians have a right to bear arms and the ability to protect themselves and their families.  My message to Richmond is to stop punishing law-abiding gun owners, it’s the criminals who continue to break the law that should be punished.”
