Biography:
Growing Up in Virginia
David Reid was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia. One of four children who lived in a four-room cinder block house with an outhouse. In 1972, he and his siblings were placed at the United Methodist Children’s Home in Richmond. After six years at the Children’s Home, David was taken in by foster parents and moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
David’s foster family helped him break the cycle of poverty that his family had lived in for generations. He became the first person in his family’s history to earn a college degree. (Source: https://www.reidforvirginia.com/)
The Call to Service
Driven by a deep desire to give back to the country that gave him so much, David joined the US Navy Reserve. He served as a Naval Intelligence Officer and made two deployments to South Korea and one to Iceland, as well as a field deployment with the US Army. After 23 years, he honorably retired as Commander.
His experiences in the Navy helped him become a business professional in strategic management, banking, global telecommunications, and the defense industry. In 2014, he founded his own small business, Rockbridge Consulting, which specialized in studies and analysis. David worked for over 35 years in the NoVA business community, primarily supporting the defense and intelligence sectors.
Continuing to Serve
In 2017, after the election of Donald Trump, David knew that he had to find a way to keep serving his country. That’s when he decided to run for the Virginia House of Delegates, winning an upset election against an entrenched Republican incumbent.
David and his wife, Barbara, have been married for 30 years and have lived in Ashburn in CD10 for 24 years. His family is deeply involved in our community, where David has been a recreational and travel soccer coach and a certified soccer referee. His daughters attended Loudoun County Public Schools and still live in Loudoun County today.
Why you?
“Growing up poor in the mountains of Virginia, I built my own bicycle from parts we found at the local landfill.”
“Throughout my entire life, I’ve worked to find creative and innovative solutions to complex problems. That is how I served my country in the Navy, as a Virginia State Delegate, and how I will work every day to solve national and local problems affecting the people of Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.” – Del. David Reid
